Mac Data Recovery Guru 4.0 Has Ability to Scan Unmountable Disk Images
Mac OS X File Recovery today announces Mac Data Recovery Guru 4.0, an important update to its data recovery utility for macOS. Mac Data Recovery Guru recovers all common file types from any Mac drive or volume. The app quickly scans any drive, and displays a list of all recoverable files on the disk. Users then select the files they wish to recover, select a destination drive, and click the “Recover” button. Version 4.0 offers the ability to scan disk images that can’t mount for file recovery.
Breckenridge, Colorado – Mac OS X File Recovery today is proud to announce the release of Mac Data Recovery Guru 4.0, the important update to its data recovery utility for macOS. Mac Data Recovery Guru offers the ability to recover all common file types that have been deleted from any kind of drive or volume, including files that were lost due to accidental deleting or formatting, hardware malfunction, or any other case of data loss where the original data was not overwritten.
Using Mac Data Recovery Guru to recover lost data is simplicity itself. Anyone can simply run the application, and then select the drive or volume they wish to scan for lost files, specifying whether to scan for deleted files only, or for both deleted and regular files. Users have no need to fear any further data loss, as Mac Data Recovery Guru prevents accidentally writing over any deleted data by accessing the drive in read-only mode.
During the scanning process, Mac Data Recovery Guru handily lists the files it has found that can be recovered, by displaying them in a familiar column-based window, macOS Finder-style window. Once the scan is complete, users can click the files they wish to recover, and then select a drive and folder location where they want the recovered files to be saved to. The user then clicks the “Recover” button, and waits for Mac Data Recovery Guru to do its job. Following recovery, users can then view the recovered files in their favorite file viewer or editor, as usual.
“Mac Data Recovery Guru has always been one of the most powerful, and easy to use data recovery utilities available for the Mac,” says Ben Slaney, CEO of Mac OS X File Recovery. “With version 4.0 of the app, we’ve also added the ability to scan used disk space as well as unused space. Plus, it can scan disk images of drives that can’t mount for recovery, and much more!”
What’s New in Version 4.0:
* The ability to scan used space, (files), as well as unused space
* Scan disk images that can’t mount for file recovery
* Scan disk images of anything else that won’t mount, like cameras, SD-cards, and more
* Remove DRM from some types of iTunes music files
* Recover thumbnails from deleted (and erased) photos in the Mac Photos app
* Recover all data from browser histories
Mac Data Recovery Guru can scan any storage device on Mac, including those that are not visible, even the Mac Recovery Drive. The app’s ability to detect and scan devices and volumes that are not normally accessible to the average user means Mac Data Recovery Guru offers almost unlimited options for recovering deleted files.
Features:
* Instantly recover deleted files in macOS
* Easy-to-use Finder-like interface
* Thumbnail previews of files that are eligible for recovery
* Scans for, and recovers deleted files
* Finds lost files other data recovery apps might miss
* Identifies bad sectors and continues past them
* Quickly recovers files from failing hard drives
* Free scan-only demo version demonstrates the power of the app
* Scans for embedded files
* Completely integrated with macOS to ensure safety of data
“What many users may not realize is that the HFS file system used by macOS doesn’t immediately remove deleted files from the hard drive, the “deleted” file is merely marked as deleted, but is only overwritten by another file when that drive space is needed,” shares Ben. “However, some data recovery utilities are so large in size, installing them might actually overwrite the very files a user wishes to recover! However, Mac Data Recovery Guru’s small disk footprint reduces the chance of its installation possibly overwriting any recoverable files.”
Supported Devices Include:
* Disks: Macintosh disks (HFS, HFS+, HFSX file systems); Windows disks (NTFS, FAT); Linux disks (Ext2, Ext3, Ext4); and Unix disks (XFS, UFS)
* Digital Cameras: Kodak, Minolta, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Olympus, and Sigma
* Mobile Phones: Android, Nokia, Motorola, Palm, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Samsung, Sanyo, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, Panasonic, Kyocera, and Blackberry
* Miscellaneous devices: USB pen drives, Memory Cards for cameras and portable devices, CD’s/DVD’s, MP3 Players, PlayStations, X-Boxes, Wii’s, and Palm devices
Developer Slaney has also updated his popular Photo Recovery Guru to include the same new features as Mac Data Recovery Guru 4.0, making it perfect for users who only require the ability to recover digital camera file types. More information about Photo Recovery Guru can be found on the Mac OS X File Recovery website.

Breckenridge, Colorado – Mac OS X File Recovery today is pleased to announce Mac Data Recovery Guru 2.0 for OS X, an update to its Mac data recovery utility, which recovers all common file types from any kind of device, due to user error, accidental formatting, hardware malfunction, or any other cause of data loss that does not involve overwriting the original file. Sporting an easy-to-use, Finder-like user interface, it is now available in the Mac App Store or directly from the publisher. The innovative application features a demo mode that allows users to preview which files can be recovered before deciding to purchase. This app takes the familiar, column-based window experience users employ when browsing files in the Finder, and it applies it to browsing deleted files. Eliminating a learning curve and any technical difficulty from using the app, this familiar interface allows users to start the app, click scan, and browse deleted files, as if the finder were still active.
Feature Highlights:
* Undelete files in Mac OS X
* User-friendly, Finder window interface
* Thumbnail previews of files eligible for recovery
* Scan for deleted files and recover files at the same time
* Finds lost files other disk recovery apps miss
* Identifies bad sectors and continues past them
* Recovers files from failing hard drives
* Free demo version available for download
* Improved user interface
* Bigger previews
* Full usage of available screen space
* Keyboard gestures added for expert users
While many other data recovery apps on the Mac Store require users to purchase the app before use, Mac Data Recovery Guru is different. Giving users the ability to try it before they buy it, this app allows users to preview which files can be recovered before deciding to purchase. As Mac data recovery may be affected by a number of circumstances, file recovery success can be a gamble. Mac Data Recovery Guru removes the risk by providing a free demo mode that displays a list of the files that can be successfully recovered. Once the eligible files are presented, users may purchase the ability to recover deleted files as an in app purchase.
On nearly all device types including hard disks, digital cameras, and mobile phones, files remain intact even after deleted until written over by new data. For this reason, there is a very high chance of recovering lost data after having deleted the file, or even after having formatted the device. Since Mac Data Recovery Guru is very small in size, it is a safe, first-step choice in any data recovery scenario. This small size is advantageous because many data recovery apps weigh in at tens or hundreds of megabytes, meaning that the mere act of downloading the data recovery app onto the drive in question runs a real risk of overwriting the data to be recovered.
Overall, Mac Data Recovery Guru has two priorities. The first priority is its ease of use. A simple, uncluttered, two-button interface allows for 2-step Mac data recovery and is as easy as using the Finder built into Mac OS X. The second focus is that the advanced application produces outstanding results. Its scan will find deleted files (even on physically failing hard drives) that other apps miss. In addition, it can scan and recover files from an unprecedented number of different kinds of devices, including: Macintosh disks, Windows disks, Linux disks, Unix disks, digital cameras, mobile phones, USB drives, memory cards, CDs/DVDs, and more.
Devices Supported:
*Disks: Macintosh disks (HFS filesystems, HFS+, HFSX filesystems); Windows disks (NTFS, FAT filesystems); Linux disks (Ext2, Ext3, Ext4 filesystems); and Unix disks (XFS, UFS filesystems)
* Digital Cameras: Kodak, Minolta, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Olympus, and Sigma
* Mobile Phones: Android, Nokia, Motorola, Palm, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Samsung, Sanyo, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, Panasonic, Kyocera, and Blackberry
* Miscellaneous devices: USB pen/thumb drives, Memory Cards for cameras and portable devices, CD’s/DVD’s, MP3 Players, PlayStations, X-Boxes, Wii’s, and Palm devices
Mac Data Recovery Guru does not force the user to wait until the disk scan is complete before they can recover a file. Users can browse through deleted files that are found during the scanning process, while the app continues to scan. Selected files appear as text or graphic previews, displaying the file’s contents even before it is recovered. The larger the number of files on the disk, the longer the scan time. Mac Data Recovery Guru features a thorough, high-speed scan, and allows users to recover their file the moment it appears in the scan window. Should additional files need to be recovered, hitting the “Recover” button does not interrupt the ongoing scan.
“With Mac Data Recovery Guru, Mac data recovery is easy,” stated CEO Ben Slaney of Mac OS X File Recovery. “The demo mode allows you to see what files are eligible for recovery, before deciding to buy.”
System Requirements
* Mac OS X 10.7 or latter
* 2 MB HD Space
* 2 GB RAM
Pricing and Availability:
Mac Data Recovery Guru 2.0 is $99.00 (USD) and is available directly from the Mac OS X File Recovery website. A free download version is available.

Breckenridge, Colorado – Mac OS X File Recovery today is pleased to introduce Battery Guru 1.0 free for OS X, their Mac battery status utility application that sits in the Mac menu bar and displays advanced information about the current state of the device’s battery. Battery Guru will monitor and present real-time information on exactly how many milliamps, a unit of electrical current, a battery is using at any given moment and display it in the menu bar, allowing users to monitor battery life and manage applications that may be draining the battery. Displaying the current battery capacity, the number of times a battery has been discharged and recharged, the date a battery was manufactured, exact battery temperature, and an accurate percentage of the current charge of a battery, Battery Guru give users precise information to better manage and optimize battery life.
In today’s mobile society, people rely on the portability of their computers. Running out of battery power on your computer can be a frustrating experience. Battery Guru will monitor and present current information on exactly how many milliamps a battery is using at any given moment and display it in the menu bar. This allows users to keep an eye on power consumption and close unnecessary pages or applications that are draining the battery.
Feature Highlights:
* Precise information to better manage and optimize battery life
* View current battery capacity and milliamps usage
* Easily identify and manage battery-draining applications
* Tools help optimize battery life
* Access important battery information to optimize system usage
* Information on number of recharges and manufacturing date
When using a computer, the amount of time a user has until the battery runs out varies drastically. The reason a battery sometimes drains quickly is usually due to one of two variables. Sometimes an app that is not even in use will remain in the background constantly using 100% of one processor core and draining the battery. Having a Flash application open in a tab is a common cause of this phenomenon. Secondly, a MacBook Pro comes with two graphics cards: one that uses little power, and one that is much more powerful and uses significantly more power. If a user is running OS Lion on a more recent MacBook Pro, the OS will automatically switch between the two. However, occasionally an app or a webpage will remain open, holding the power-hungry graphics card open, and unnecessarily draining the battery charge.
Battery Guru also provides a secondary but equally important function. By providing information that users do not usually have access to, this app gives users the tools to optimize their battery life and function. It will show the current battery capacity compared to the capacity it had when it was new. It also provides information on the number of times a battery has been discharged and recharged, the date a battery was manufactured, and the exact battery temperature. Battery Guru’s information on current battery charge is a more exact percentage than provided by the operating system, giving users accurate and actionable battery information.
Each computer comes with a “Smart Battery,” that actually already knows battery information and holds it internally. Battery Guru is the means of accessing this relevant information, allowing monitoring of the current battery state and awareness of the functioning of the computer system. Users may set Battery Guru to start automatically at login, providing a seamless interface with the computer system.
“Never be caught without battery power again,” stated Mac OS X File Recovery CEO, Ben Slaney. “Battery Guru is the battery monitoring system you can’t live without!”
System Requirements:
* Mac OS X 10.5 or later
* 0.37 MB
* Mac notebook computer

Data Recovery Guru 1.4 for OS X – Mac Data Recovery Try-Before-You-Buy
Summary:
Mac OS X File Recovery today introduces version 1.4 of Mac Data Recovery Guru, the latest data recovery utility that recovers all common filetypes from any kind of device, due to user error, accidental formatting, hardware malfunction, and any other cause of data loss that does not involve overwriting the original file. Version 1.4 adds optimizations and bug fixes to the product, both streamlining the performance and assuring an overall smooth experience for users.
Body:
Breckenridge, Colorado – Mac OS X File Recovery today is pleased to announce version 1.4 of Mac Data Recovery Guru for OS X, the latest data recovery utility on the market and the only one to sport an easy-to-use Finder-like user interface. The main idea behind Mac Data Recovery Guru is to take the very same column-based window experience you have in browsing files in the Finder, and apply it to browsing deleted files with Mac Data Recovery Guru. This eliminates the learning curve and any technical difficulty from using the app, as you can start it up, click scan, and then feel like you’re in the Finder again only this time you’re browsing your deleted files. Mac Data Recovery Guru has been so effective at reproducing the Finder experience for browsing deleted files, that in the early stages one point of confusion for some users was that they thought they were still browsing their regular files in the Finder. The interface has been updated to clarify that this is not the case.
On nearly all device types including hard disks, digital cameras and mobile phones, files remain intact even after deleted until written over by new data that gets written to the device. For this reason there is a very high chance of recovering the data you lost after having deleted the file, or even after having formatted the device. One main point of Mac Data Recovery Guru is that it is very small in size. This is advantageous because many data recovery apps weigh in at tens or hundreds of megabytes, meaning that the mere act of downloading the data recovery app onto the drive in question runs a real risk of overwriting the data you are attempting to recover. Weighing in at a very small size of just a couple of megabytes makes Mac Data Recovery Guru a safe first-step choice in any data recovery scenario.
Overall Mac Data Recovery Guru has two priorities: One is to be very easy to use. A simple interface with two buttons which is completely uncluttered allows for 2-step data recovery and is as easy as using the Finder built into Mac OS X. Two is that internally it does everything possible to provide robust results.
Data Recovery Guru features a thorough, high-speed scan, and allows users to recover their file the moment it appears in the scan window. Should additional files need to be recovered, hitting the “Recover” button does not interrupt the ongoing scan
Version 1.4 Highlights:
* Now uses Apple’s latest ARC memory management. This provides optimizations in memory usage and performance in comparison to the memory management schemes that were available in Cocoa previously.
*Bug fixes
*Optimization to speed up file preview
*General Optimization and speed increase
Mac Data Recovery Guru provides the following features:
* Undelete files in Mac OS X
* User-friendly Finder window interface
* File thumbnail previews
* Scan for deleted files and recover files at the same time
* Finds lost files other disk recovery apps miss
* Identifies bad sectors and continues past them
* Recovers files from failing hard drives
* Free demo version available for download
“The main benefit of Data Recovery Guru is its ease of use and tight integration with OS X; it looks and feels like a Finder window, but it allows you to view deleted files rather than regular files,” stated CEO Ben Slaney of Mac OS X File Recovery. “In the past, data recovery software had an appreciable learning curve, but Data Recovery Guru just works as soon as it’s launched. And with the bug fixes and optimizations included in 1.4, a smooth and positive experience is assured.”
System Requirements:
* Mac OS X 10.6 or above
* 1.5MB HD Space
* 4GB RAM
Pricing and Availability:
Data Recovery Guru 1.4 is only $99.00 (USD) and available worldwide directly from the Mac OS X File Recovery website. A free demo version is available for download.

Photo Recovery Guru for OS X: Scan + Recover Deleted Picture/Movie Files
Summary:
Mac OS X File Recovery today introduces Photo Recovery Guru 1.0 for OS X, their new Utility app that recovers movie and picture files that have been accidentally deleted due to user error or hardware malfunction. A targeted and less expensive version of their popular file recovery product, Data Recovery Guru, Photo Recovery Guru is customized to allow the user to focus on the recovery of photo, image, and movie file formats that have been accidentally erased.
Body:
Breckenridge, Colorado – Mac OS X File Recovery today is pleased to introduce Photo Recovery Guru 1.0 for OS X, their new Utility app that recovers movie and picture files that have been accidentally deleted due to user error or hardware malfunction. A targeted and less expensive version of their popular file recovery product, Data Recovery Guru, Photo Recovery Guru is customized to allow the user to focus on the recovery of photo, image, and movie file formats that have been accidentally erased.
On hard disks, digital cameras, mobile phones, USB thumb drives, memory cards and gaming devices, picture files that appear to have been deleted actually remain until written over by new data. Photo Recovery Guru locates and “unerases” these seemingly deleted pictures, picking up data remnants and recovering them for use. Photo Recovery Guru can find and save picture and movie files that other apps cannot. It generates preview thumbnails of recoverable files and can recover files at the same time it is scanning for lost files. With its easy-to-use, graphical user interface and smart proprietary algorithms, the app’s data recovery is intuitive and completely “non-technical.”
Accidentally deleting a photo or movie can be a frustrating and frightening experience. Priceless pictures and movies capture unique moments in time as users rely on pictures and photos in their business and personal lives. Fortunately, picture files erased from cameras, mobile phones, discs, and thumb drives are not really removed from the disk. On erasing a picture, the device or disk’s file index is instructed that the location of the file is now “free space,” and can be used to hold new data. But until it is overwritten, the original file remains unaltered, though it cannot be seen in the Finder. Photo recovery apps perform two related jobs. One, they scan the disk, looking for intact picture and movie files that the file index erroneously believes are gone. And two, they allow the user to select for recovery any missing file identified in the scan. When successfully recovered, the photo or movie file again appears in the Finder and is “good as new,” ready to be used as if nothing ever happened.
Photo Recovery Guru 1.0 for OS X is part of a new breed of disk recovery apps for three important reasons. First, Photo Recovery Guru is uncomplicated and easy to use. The user does not need to make any choices about which of several possible scanning modes they want to use. There are no Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced data recovery methods. There is one simple default that works flawlessly. Photo Recovery Guru does not use an esoteric control panel or display window. Rather, the user sees the same Finder window to which they are accustomed. From the sidebar, the user selects the Volume or Drive. In the window’s first column are listed folders showing the different types of files that have been located. Then, in the next column is a list of individual picture and movie files contained in the folder selected. Finally, in the last column is one single image file chosen for recovery. This is photo data recovery for grandparents, unpretentious and user-friendly.
The second reason Photo Recovery Guru represents a new kind of data recovery app is that its scan will find deleted pictures and movies (even some on failing hard drives) that other apps miss. In addition, it can scan and recover files from an unprecedented number of different kinds of devices, including: Macintosh disks, Windows disks, Linux disks, Unix disks, digital cameras, mobile phones, USB drives, memory cards, CDs/DVDs, X Boxes, PlayStations, Wii’s, and more. Third and last, Data Recovery Guru does not force the user to wait until the disk scan is complete before they can recover a photo. Users can browse through deleted pictures that are found during the scanning process, while the app continues to scan. Selected files appear as graphic previews, displaying the picture even before it is recovered. Devices with a large number of files will require a longer the scan time. Photo Recovery Guru features a thorough, high-speed scan, and allows users to recover their file the moment it appears in the scan window. Should additional photos or movies need to be recovered, hitting the “Recover” button does not interrupt the ongoing scan.
Feature Highlights:
* Undelete photo, image and movie files in Mac OS X
* User-friendly Finder window interface
* File thumbnail previews
* Scan for deleted files and recover files at the same time
* Finds lost files other disk recovery apps miss
* Identifies bad sectors
* Recovers files from failing hard drives, discs, digital cameras, mobile phones, portable drives, and game systems
* Free demo version available for download
“Photo Recovery Guru is the simple, stress-free way to view and recover deleted picture and movie files,” stated CEO Ben Slaney of Mac OS X File Recovery. “Unlike other data recovery programs that are difficult to learn and use, Photo Recovery Guru works as soon as it’s launched. Never lose a priceless photo again.”

Body:
Breckenridge, Colorado – Mac OS X File Recovery today is pleased to introduce Data Recovery Guru 1.0 for OS X, their new Utility app that recovers files that have been accidentally deleted due to user error or hardware malfunction. Files that have been emptied from the Trash appear gone, but actually remain on the disk until written over by new data. Data Recovery Guru locates and “unerases” these seemingly deleted files. Data Recovery Guru stands out among data recovery apps because it can find and save files that other apps cannot, generates preview thumbnails of recoverable files, and it can recover files at the same time it is scanning for lost files. Employing proprietary algorithms, the app’s friendly GUI makes data recovery completely “non-technical.”
Even the most experienced Mac users occasionally delete a file by accident. This can be an extremely frustrating, even frightening, experience, because users rely on their Macs in managing so much of their business and personal lives. Fortunately, experienced users have also learned that files emptied from the Trash are not really removed from the disk. On erasing a file, the disk’s file index is instructed that the location of the file is now “free space,” and can be used to hold new data. But until it is overwritten, the original file remains unaltered, though it cannot be seen in the Finder. Disk recovery apps perform two related jobs. One, they scan the disk, looking for intact files that the file index erroneously believes are gone. And two, they allow the user to select for recovery any missing file identified in the scan. When successfully recovered, the file again appears in the Finder and is “good as new,” ready to be used as if nothing ever happened.
Data Recovery Guru 1.0 for OS X is part of a new breed of disk recovery apps for three important reasons. First, Data Recovery Guru is uncomplicated and easy to use. The user does not need to make any choices about which of several possible scanning modes they want to use. There are no Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced data recovery methods. There is one simple default that works flawlessly. Again, unlike some competitors, Data Recovery Guru does not use an esoteric control panel or display window. Rather, the user sees the same Finder window to which they are accustomed. From the sidebar, the user selects the Volume or Drive. In the window’s first column are listed folders showing the different types of files that have been located. Then, in the next column is a list of individual files contained in the folder selected. Finally, in the last column is one single file chosen for recovery. This is data recovery for grandparents, unpretentious and user-friendly.
The second reason Data Recovery Guru represents a new kind of data recovery app is that its scan will find deleted files (even some files on failing hard drives) that other apps miss. In addition, it can scan and recover files from an unprecedented number of different kinds of devices, including: Macintosh disks, Windows disks, Linux disks, Unix disks, digital cameras, mobile phones, USB drives, memory cards, CDs/DVDs, and more. Third and last, Data Recovery Guru does not force the user to wait until the disk scan is complete before they can recover a file. Users can browse through deleted files that are found during the scanning process, while the app continues to scan. Selected files appear as text or graphic previews, displaying the file’s content even before it is recovered. The larger the number of files on the disk, the longer the scan time. Data Recovery Guru features a thorough, high-speed scan, and allows users to recover their file the moment it appears in the scan window. Should additional files need to be recovered, hitting the “Recover” button does not interrupt the ongoing scan.
Feature Highlights:
* Undelete files in Mac OS X

“The main benefit of Data Recovery Guru is its ease of use and tight integration with OS X; it looks like a Finder window, but it allows you to view deleted files rather than regular files,” stated CEO Ben Slaney of Mac OS X File Recovery. “In the past, data recovery software had an appreciable learning curve, but Data Recovery Guru just works as soon as it’s launched.”
